(F) lannigan’s Ball is a song by Celtic punk band Dropkick Murphys on the album The Meanest Of Times

History

The parentheses surrounding the title F are there to recall the song that the Dropkick Murphys used as the basis of the piece, entitled Lanigan’s Ball . Popular Irish song, it is played in pubs and bars around the world. In the Irish and American culture of the Irish immigration wave of the late 1800s and early 1900s, ” Lanigan’s ball ” is an expression used to describe a situation that goes awry.

The lyrics describe an organized party for a young man who has recently become a father. Some of the lyrics also say that the party was organized so that the young man shows the traditional dance that he learned in Dublin .

Dropkick Murphys used the chorus and some lyrics of the song.

The song was recorded in Dublin with the Irish legend of The Dubliners Ronnie Drew and Spider Stacy  (in) the Pogues .
