Fade to Gray is a song by British new wave band Visage , released in single on.

History

Second single of the group, Fade to Gray is the biggest success of Face. He became a major hit in the dance floor, ranks 8 th in the UK charts and number one in Germany and Switzerland . It will help popularize synthpop music in the early 1980s and is now considered the first single of the musical current New Romantic 1 , 2 .

The musicians on this track are Steve Strange on vocals, Midge Ure and Rusty Egan on vocals, Billy Currie on synthesizers and violin, Chris Payne on synths, and Cedric Sharpley on drums and drum machine. The latter two are not official members of Visage. As for the French female voice, she belongs to Brigitte Arens, Rusty Egan’s girlfriend at the time.

The clip is directed by Godley & Creme  (in) and features the singer Steve Strange 3 .

In 1988 , the single is reissued in CD format. In 1993 , the title is remixed to promote the compilation Fade to Gray – The Best of Face and ranks again in the charts in the United Kingdom.

In 2014 , the band, in their new band, re-recorded the track accompanied by a symphonic orchestra , the Synthosymphonic Orchestra. The single, titled Fade to Gray (Orchestral) , is the first single from the Orchestral album .
