Lo Fiolaire (The spinner) is a popular song of Auvergne in langue d’oc .

The piece was collected by the composer Joseph Canteloube between 1923 and 1930 and appears in the collection Chants d’Auvergne , where he arranged it for soprano and orchestra .

The song is part of the third notebook that the composer had dedicated to the singer Madeleine Gray , who created it in 1926, obtaining a great public success [ref. necessary] .

In 1964 , Luciano Berio arranged the song for mezzo-soprano, flute , clarinet , harp , percussion, viola and cello . The song was included in the Folk Songs collection and was recorded by his wife Cathy Berberian .
