Genesis and composition

After the release of the album Survivor in 2001 from her former band Destiny’s Child , Beyoncé is pursuing a solo career and working on her debut album, Dangerously in Love . Beyoncé says that the disc is more personal than his previous recordings because she had to write for itself 1 . She contacts various musical collaborators; including Scott Storch, who produced hits from Christina Aguilera , Robert Waller and his personal assistant, songwriter and cousin Angela Beyincé. Storch and Beyoncé sample the chorus of the 1975 song Love to Love You Baby , originally performed by Donna Summerand written by Summer, Pete Bellotte and Giorgio Moroder .

Naughty Girl is an R’n’B song based on a dominant Phrygian scale with a C tip. It is written in a 4/4 rhythmic signature and is set at a moderate number of 102 beats per minute . Beyoncé’s voice covers an octave and a half, from Si 3 to Fa 2 . The song is influenced by Arabic music, resulting from its disco-oriented and high tempo 3 .

Video clip

The video clip of Naughty Girl is directed by Jake Nava 4 , who made the first two videos of Beyoncé, Crazy in Love and Baby Boy . The video is inspired by the dance of Cyd Charisse and Fred Astaire in the 1953 musical All On Stage and has a style of Studio 54 3 , 4 . Coupled with Atlanta singer Usher who imitates Charisse and Astaire in the music video, Beyoncé dances in a sensual way and flirts with him to represent a naughty girl 3 , 4. According to Usher, the video is a tribute to classical “ultimate artists” ; which includes dancers, singers and actors.

The video begins with Beyoncé performing a simple routine dance surrounded by a wall of mirrors then she undresses, until she is naked behind a white curtain, revealing her figure. Beyoncé then enters a club with an outfit and a different hairstyle with some of her friends; then she and Usher notice each other. The two meet on the dancefloor and dance intimately, before Beyoncé performs an elaborate dance scene with dancers. It swirls around a glass of life-size champagne and filled with bubbles (to Josephine Baker ). In the final scene, Beyoncé sits at the top of a piano, and after being raised by a gentleman,25 .

The clip has received responses from music programs. In TRL of MTV , Naughty Girl begins to tenth position on 22 March 2004 and then took first place 26 , 27 . It is removed from the “Hall of Fame” of TRL in seventh place after the countdown for fifty days 28 . The video wins the Best Female Video Award at the MTV Video Music Awards 2004, the same prize that Beyoncé won for Crazy in Love the year before, and is nominated for the Best Choreography Award, the best dance video and the best photography 29 .
