Video killed the Radio Star is a song performed by the English band The Buggles , written and composed by Trevor Horn , Geoff Downes and Bruce Wooley. It was officially dedicated as the first radio soundtrack from the album The Age of Plastic in the summer of 1979 . The song was released on this album in 1979, about the same time as the version of Bruce Wooley, who had worked with Horn and Downes on two tracks ( Video killed … and Clean Clean ) before founding his own band. In advance of its time, the version of Buggles announces the synthpop , music of the 1980s.

Hans Zimmer worked as co-producer or arranger on this song and the others on the album The Age of Plastic . It is besides the keyboardist dressed in black that one sees behind Geoff Downes at the end of the video-clip 3 .

Video clip

The music video was the first music video to be broadcast on the MTV cable channel , but the production admitted that it was just a coincidence. It is still simple and very kitsch, showing the group playing in a kind of shed. A woman in the costume of disco influence appears in a pipe.
